Florence, the ‘Cradle of the Renaissance’, is a wonderfully artistic and cultural city to visit on your holiday to Tuscany.

If you’re staying at a holiday rental in Florence for a few days and have seen a lot of the city’s attractions then why not rent a car and explore the many welcoming towns surrounding it?

Only ten kilometres outside of Florence is the popular tourist town of Fiesole. In fact you can admire a spectacular view of the city from here.

Tourists could explore the attractions in this welcoming hub before moving onto the next destination. Cortona lies further afield at ninety minutes’ drive away but it could still easily be visited on a day trip from Florence.

Visit the charming old town of San Miniato in Pisa which is built across three little hills. Not to be confused with San Miniato al Monte in Florence which is 40 kilometres in a north-east direction, this town was once situated along Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrim path.

Book into a charming villa in Santa Croce Sull'arno which is only a short distance from San Miniato. Here you can easily explore San Miniato and other lovely communes in the area.

Situated in the lower Arno Valley, the medieval town of San Miniato is tucked right in the heart of Tuscany and showcases all that is authentic and appealing about this popular region.

Chianni is a stunning town in the Pisa province of Tuscany that lies about 35 kilometres outside of Pisa city. It is a little Tuscan gem, tucked into a sea of grape vines, chestnut woods and olive trees. Overlooking the scenic Valdera Valley, Chianni is located close to other towns of interest such as San Gimignano, Volterra and Pisa. It’s a beautifully preserved 12th century town with quaint little streets, well-kept houses and welcoming townsfolk.

Cecina is a stunning seaside paradise in the province of Livorno in Tuscany. Situated about 30 kilometres south-east of Livorno town, Cecina is close to Bibbona and Casale Marittimo…other worthy towns worth visiting on your trails of Tuscany!

Stay in a beautiful villa in Larciano, only four kilometres from Cecina and enjoy exploring this scenic part of the region for a few days.

There are many wonderful tourist attractions on offer in Cecina including a fascinating archaeological park on the outskirts of the town that displays the remains of a 1st century BC Roman villa!

Come and see the glorious sight of the old Sonnino Castle near Livorno in Tuscany. This 19th century castle was built on a cliff overlooking the sea and is nearby to the small village of Quercianella.

It is now privately owned and only opens to the public on special occasions. Castle Sonnino even has its own private marina!

Castello Sonnino is indeed a beautiful landmark and would make for a splendid photograph if you’re touring in the area.
