Castello di Montegufoni is an exclusive location to spend wonderful holidays in the heart of Chianti Region.
Dating back to the 12th century and restored in the 17th century by the noble family of Acciaioli, the Castle has a magnificent tower built on the model of the one of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
Montegufoni Castle is part of a large estate comprising vineyards and olive trees and is surrounded by the beautiful Chianti landscape. In the castle there are 39 apartments and a large garden with a nice swimming pool: the perfect spot to relax and have fun with your family and friends.
The Chianti Region is one of the most renowned charming area in Italy for its cultural, historical and enogastronomic traditions. This luxurious Castle offers to our guests incredible holiday experiences (on request) such as cooking lessons, event location, guided tours and more!
Distances from the villa: the small village of Montagnana V.P. with food shops 1 km, Montespertoli with all kinds of shops approx. 5 km, Florence 20 km, Pisa approx. 70 km.
A bus stop with busses to Florence is only a few meters from the castle away. Bikes and scooters for rent are available in Montespertoli.
At guests’ disposal: large and very charming terraced park furnished with garden furniture and table tennis, beautiful Italian gardens (dating back to the 18th century) with lemon trees and swimming-pool (12 x 6 m - open from 01/04 to 31/10). Reception open from 9.00 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 18.30. The outbuildings of the castle as well were restored and turned into charming apartments. The castle is run by the Posarelli family. A nice restaurant offering nice recipes of the local Chianti tradition is open every night (from April to October except on Tuesdays). Laundry with shared washing-machine (€ 4,- / per washing). Country House Lo Spigo is a traditional Tuscan country house, located 405 m above sea level, converted from an authentic 19th century barn. It was acquired and completely renovated by the current owner who, while respecting the structure with its original window ventilation grilles and wooden ceiling beams, has modified it, transforming it into a welcoming country house with beautiful oak floors, air conditioning, comfortable bedrooms and well-equipped living areas. Embellishing the house is the beautiful surrounding garden, where the unmistakable Chianti hills, dotted with old borghi and expanses of vines, frame the wonderful patio which, in front of the house, contains the fully-equipped pergola and the swimming pool, surrounded by greenery and olive trees and mellowed by the scent of lavender bushes. Located just outside the medieval borghi of Barberino Tavarnelle and San Donato in Poggio, the property enjoys a strategic position: by taking the scenic Chiantigiana road, a true panoramic link that connects Siena (about 40 km) to Florence (about 30 km), you can make daily excursions to visit the renowned towns of Radda, Gaiole, Greve and Panzano, rich in art treasures, churches and Renaissance villas perched on panoramic hills, or go a little further to discover the charm of San Gimignano, Volterra or Montalcino.
Interior:
Country House Lo Spigo lies on sloping terrain that allows outside access from the two floors of which it is composed. On the ground floor is the main entrance that leads into the living room with kitchen and dining area; from here a few steps lead up to a double bedroom (with joinable beds). Downstairs is the living room with satellite TV, a double bedroom with French windows leading out to the garden and ensuite bathroom with shower, and a bathroom with shower with anteroom used as a small laundry with washing machine.
Park:
The house is surrounded by about 1200 sq m of terrain mainly planted with olive trees. The usable garden area extends over two levels for an area of about 700 sq m of lawn, lavender and rosemary bushes, lemon and fruit trees. In front of the entrance to the house, across a paved patio, you come to the beautiful jasmine-covered pergola furnished with a seating area, dining table and barbecue and with, on the side, the solarium and swimming pool. A flight of steps from the patio leads down to the lower lawn area. In front of the house is a parking area. The property is accessed through a remote-controlled gate shared with another property located about 150 m further on. Although not fenced, the house lies within a quiet secluded area thanks to the trees that surround it.
Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.
Swimming Pool:
The swimming pool, set in the green panoramic part of the garden at the side of the house, is located on the same level as it, a few metres away. Measuring 6 x 3.25 m with a constant depth of 1.60 m, it is lined in walnut-coloured travertine and has salt purification, steps for access to the water on one of the short sides and an internal spotlight. Sunbeds, low tables, an umbrella and a portable, cold-water shower are set out on the beautiful paving that surrounds the pool equipped with an isothermal bubble cover (to preserve the water temperature in the cooler months). The pool is open from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.
If waste disposal will not be carried out according to the rules provided at check-in, an extra of € 100,00 will be required at check-out.

Paved terraces, particularly the generous one situated between the main house and the annex, are perfectly suited for setting up long tables for convivial al fresco dining and shared moments. Ground floor rooms open directly onto the garden, where large furnished terraces allow you to soak in the peaceful atmosphere of the surrounding countryside. The property is accessed via a dirt road that leads directly into the estate, and the parking area, located behind the house in a secluded section of the property, includes a partly covered garage for 1 car and uncovered spaces for up to 6 vehicles. The garage also serves as a storeroom equipped with a chest freezer and a laundry area. A dedicated storeroom beneath the swimming pool houses the pool's technical equipment as well as farm tools and machinery.
The non-heated swimming pool is a focal point of the outdoor experience, positioned 30 metres from both the farmhouse and the annex on a terrace paved with terracotta and partially enclosed by fragrant hedges of laurel, oleander, rosemary, helichrysum, and lavender. Rectangular in shape and measuring 16 x 8 metres, with a depth ranging from 1.50 to 2.50 metres, the pool is lined in PVC and features chlorine purification and internal lighting. A solar shower is available poolside for your convenience. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October, with access times from 8 am to 7 pm. A few metres from the house, a beautiful heated hot tub designed for 5 people is available and open all year round, offering a luxurious complement to the outdoor relaxation experience. Please note that photographs of the property were taken in spring, so the blossoming of flowers and the colour of the garden grass may differ from what you observe upon arrival.
Unit Layout
Podere Santa Croce accommodates a maximum of 10 guests across 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, distributed between 2 independent buildings situated 60 metres apart. The main farmhouse is arranged over 2 floors connected by an internal staircase. On the ground floor, the main entrance opens into an entrance hall that leads to a sitting room with a television and a French window at the rear of the house. Also on this floor is a double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom featuring a shower and a French window on the pool side, as well as a kitchen and a dining room with access to the external dining area. The internal staircase leads to the first floor, where you will find 2 double bedrooms each with a private bathroom equipped with a bathtub, and a further double bedroom with a private bathroom with shower, which also benefits from access to an external terrace. The annex, the second independent building, is composed of a sitting room, a double bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. All 5 bedrooms are individually styled and each features its own private bathroom, ensuring comfort and privacy for every guest.
