Dating back over 150 years, this historic shop was originally a chemist but has had many lives and iterations throughout its lifetime. In the early 1900s, the shop was famous among locals for selling painting products such as pigments, varnishes, solvents, and more. In addition to the chemical department, the shop was also already a grocer where spices, salt, sugar, coffee, tea, sweets, and confectionery items were sold. Many older locals today still remember going to the shop with their parents or grandparents to buy specific cleaning products or special treats for the kids – it has been a key fixture of neighbourhood and Florentine life for decades.
In the 1960s, the shop was purchased by new owners, a family who still runs the establishment and, in 1985, the shop was renovated. Today, not only do they stock incredible food products from the area but also key foodie items from all over Italy including capers from Pantelleria and Krumiri Rossi (delicious biscuits dating back to the 19th century) from Piedmont. There is also a delicatessen with expert staff who can explain and serve fine cheeses and cured meats; a wide range of wines; delicious chocolates; beauty products; and an array of spices, coffee, tea, and other similar groceries that have been sold at the store since its beginnings.
