South Tuscany coast Maremma
In our previous article about the beautiful southern part of Tuscany called the Maremma, we described its breath-taking landscape that hugs the coastline. Here we’ll describe some of its most charming communes and attractions.

Choose from a gorgeous range of luxury vacation villas on the Tuscan coast and enjoy a few days soaking up plenty of sunshine and culture!

Tucked up in the rolling hills of the Maremma is the pretty Orange Flag town of Pitigliano which is Etruscan in origin.

The Etruscans were very skilled at choosing stunning locations for their settlements, mostly preferring to build on the hilltops of volcanic rock called tufu. They differed greatly from the Romans who preferred to build on flattish ground and construct large walls and fortresses to keep any unwanted visitors out!

Rent a car and meander along the winding road from Pitigliano to Sorano which is a lovely little commune tucked under the foot of the striking Orsini Castle.

This ancient fortress is considered to be one of Italy’s finest examples of Renaissance military architecture and is quite a sight to behold. The ancient stone buildings that make up Sorano itself are beautifully preserved and hold a vast wealth of fascinating history and traditions for tourists to discover.

Close to Sorano is the enchanting and beautifully preserved town of Sovana. A must see attraction here is the magnificent Aldobrandeschi castle which was once the residence of this rich and powerful Tuscan family.
