If you are a fan of small towns off the beaten tourist track, hidden gems and endless surprises, Tuscany is the perfect town for you. It is full of charming, little-known towns that are authentic, peaceful and exceptionally pretty. Just find a villa rental in Tuscany and begin discovering its endless charms for yourself!

One of these lovely little towns is Pontremoli, one of the main villages of Lunigiana, located at the bottom of Tosco Emiliano Apennines. In the lush and wild part of northern Tuscany, it is far from queues, tacky souvenirs and the regular itineraries. Boasting a stunning natural setting, pretty town, rich history and culinary tradition, and a slow pace of life, it is an excellent place to spend a day soaking up the atmosphere of daily life in a real Tuscan town.

As Florence is the fashion capital of Tuscany, it is home to some of the world's most famous and beloved designers, excellent stores and some amazing fashion museums. Fashionistas who find a luxury villa in Florence take note, these are the museums you should focus on.

3. The Costume Gallery of Florence

Housed in the seventeenth-century wing of Palazzo Pitti, known as the Palazzina della Meridiana, the Costume Gallery was founded in 1983. Through major acquisitions and public and private donations, it has amassed a collection of over 6,000 objects, making it one of the best fashion museums in the whole world. For any serious history or fashion buffs, it is a must but is also filled with so many objects that are simply stunning, anyone could enjoy a visit.

Milan may be the fashion capital of Italy but Florence is the fashion capital of Tuscany and filled to the brim with stylish people, eateries and boutiques. However, it is also home to some excellent fashion museums. So, if you are a serious lover of fashion and fashion history, find a luxury villa in Florence and discover the place where so many of your favourite brands were born and still strive to this day...

Certaldo Alto is a pretty little medieval town in the Tuscan countryside, perched on a hillside between Florence and Pisa. With old walls, cobbled streets and amazing views over the surrounding scenery, it is a truly beautiful and picturesque place, full of the charm of times gone by. This is only heightened by the presence of the Certaldo Funicular, a funicular railway that links Certaldo Basso to Certaldo Alto, the older and newer parts of the town. Along the way, it offers excellent views over the new town and the surrounding area.

6. Palazzo Blu: Palazzo Blu is one of Tuscany's artistic highlights and is an excellent art museum located right in the historic heart of Pisa. Home to both an excellent permanent collection – featuring works by the likes of Artemisia and Orazio Gentileschi, Benozzo Gozzoli and Umberto Vittorini – and important temporary exhibitions throughout the year – Dali, Lautrec and Escher have all been showcased in the last couple of years, it is a wonderful place to get a taste of the great tradition of art in Tuscany.

7. Borgo Stretto: This is a popular pedestrian shopping street filled with charming historic buildings, stores, eateries and cafés. Ideal for wandering, doing a spot of shopping and grabbing a bite to eat, it's an idyllic and typical pretty Tuscan cityscape to spend some time in.
