Explore These Stunning Spa Destinations On Holiday In Tuscany

Saturnia
There are certain locations around the globe that people have in mind as spa destinations – the high-tech skincare clinics of the Swiss Alps, the reviving waters and elegant surroundings of Bath in England, the luxurious wellness centres of LA, the traditional hot springs of Japan – but one lesser-known spa hot spot is Tuscany. A villa in Tuscany not only means you can enjoy the delicious local food and wine for which the region is beloved by foodies the world over, incredible works of art and architecture from the part of the world in which Michelangelo and da Vinci (among many other extraordinary talents) were born, picture-perfect medieval villages perched on hilltops that have remained preserved and largely untouched by time, impossibly lovely vistas of rolling green hills that stretch throughout the countryside, charming coastal towns boasting idyllic beaches, and much more besides, it also means ready access to lots of pretty spa towns and healing thermal waters. Many towns in Tuscany, in fact, bear the word, “terme,” in their name, meaning thermal spring, and each of these boast naturally-occurring waters with healing and relaxing properties as well as modern spa facilities that have been built up around them. So, if you're looking for a holiday destination in which there will be plenty of options for a day or two (or several) at the spa to completely unwind while on vacation, then look no further than Tuscany!
Cascate del Mulino
Among the various spa towns of Tuscany, however, the most beloved and well-known is, undoubtedly, Saturnia. Despite being one of the many examples not to actually have, “terme,” in the name, this wonderful spa town boasts one of the most iconic and picturesque thermal springs in the region. While there are several places to enjoy the waters that are rich in mineral deposits, particularly sulphur, and that bubble up through the Earth's crust between Mount Amiata to the hills of Albenga and Fiora and reaching Roselle and Talamone, Saturnia's most famous spot to enjoy them is at the stunning Cascate del Mulino. A series of waterfalls and natural pools of those warm thermal waters, this gem is open to the public for free throughout the whole year. If you have found a vacation rental in Tuscany or a villa in Saturnia, in particular, this is the place to go for a free soak and melt your worries away while taking in one of the most beautiful scenes in the region. The Cascate del Gorello is another, less famous and less busy, option of that delightful combination of waterfalls and thermal pools in the area for those looking to enjoy a free spa experience. There are also several modern spas and wellness centres located around the town if you are also looking for additional treatments after your soak. There you can pay for massages, skincare treatments, and other procedures.
Bagno Vignoni
If you are looking to get away from the busier and more touristy option of Saturnia, the outdoor hot springs at Bagni San Filippo are an excellent choice. Located in a lovely wooded setting, these springs are to be found just outside this lovely town in the Val d'Orcia, and are made up of calciferous formations, waterfalls, and small pools of hot water framed by the trees. Also free to the public and open throughout the year, though more of a better-kept secret than many claim the well-known springs of Saturnia to be, there are lots of pools stretched along the woods. The best-known among them is the, “White Whale,” an impressive formation of calcium and a waterfall where the hot water of the springs meets the cool river water, turning it a shocking white-blue color that contrasts with the rich green of the woods. Deeper into the woods, there are the rest of the pools of the Fosso Bianco and the pools of a private spa that visitors must pay to access. Find a villa in the Val d'Orcia, come and soak in any one of the many pools that are to be found all throughout the woods, pack thermal mud from the bottom of the pools on as face and body masks for a free beauty treatment, and if you're still looking for more ways to pamper yourself, then head to the private spa for other treatments.

One of the oldest and most famous thermal spa destinations in Tuscany is the town of Bagno Vignoni, located not far from Siena. With its Roman period pool in the centre of the main square in town (sadly now just for admiring and no longer open to bathers) as evidence of how long the area has been drawing visitors to come and relax, it is one of the most picturesque spa destinations in Tuscany. While the prettiest bath in town may not open for use anymore, there are several spas and springs to enjoy in the area, making it a must for those who enjoy pretty surroundings and are looking to have a day at the spa while on holiday rental in Siena.
Thermal spring
Chianciano Terme is yet another Tuscan spa town known for its evocative scenery as well as the value of its thermal springs for therapeutic purposes, in addition to relaxation. Located between Val d’Orcia and Valdichiana, the town is particularly known for treating liver problems and its hydroponic treatments, though one can also avail of their sports rehabilitation, wellness, and beauty treatments as well. The famous Parco Acqua Santa in town is open all year long and offers a wide array of different procedures for all sorts of purposes. Find a vacation rental in the Val d'Orcia and avail of the endless options for bettering your health and relaxing in this charming spa town.

If you have found a villa with pool in Chianti and you're also looking for excellent health and wellness treatments to enjoy while relaxing on holiday, then come to the town of Rapolano Terme. Set amongst the amazing scenery of the Crete Senesi, Rapolano Terme boasts the spas of San Giovanni and Antica Querciolaia, both of which have excellent facilities and innovative technologies in order to offer incredible treatments for specific ailments and for maximising your R&R experience in Tuscany.
Spa treatment
Other spa towns in the region include Gambassi Terme near Florence with its delightful 19th century surroundings and digestive treatments, the luxurious and stylish old spa towns of Montecatini and Monsummano Terme that have attracted VIPS from all over for centuries, and San Casciano dei Bagni with her 42 thermal springs and listing as one of the prettiest towns in all of Tuscany, to name but a few more examples. Tuscany really is just bursting with spa destinations! So, if you're looking to plan a holiday and you really need to unwind, be sure to browse our villas in Tuscany today.
