Tuscany is full of grand gardens and is full of excellent art collections but there are also several places that combine the two things. One of these makes for a perfect day out for those who find a vacation rental in Maremma, the Giardino di Daniel Spoerri. A lovely sculpture garden created by the Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri in the early 1990s, it was opened to the public in 1997 and is located in Seggiano, near Monte Amiata.
Open from April until October each year, it is composed of 112 installations that have been created by 55 different artists and 79 bronzes by Spoerri himself. Located across 16 hectare in the hills around Siena, the garden also boasts truly exceptional views across the surrounding typical and idyllic Tuscan landscape.
Walking around the garden and taking in all of the pieces takes about 3 hours and is a lovely way to enjoy Tuscany's incredible artistic heritage and scenery at the same time, while avoiding stuffy museums, large tourist crowds and queues. Of course, the famous museums are must-sees but this is something a little different that would enrich any trip to the area.
Come and wander the sculptures of men, animals and more abstract figures by the likes of Eva Aeppli, Jean Tinguelj, Meret Oppenheim, Bermhard Luginbuhl, Pavel Schmidt, Dieter Roth, and other famous artists from all over the globe, all entwined with olive groves, chestnut trees and flowers. There is also an excellent restaurant and guided tours in English, French and German for anyone interested, to complete the experience of your visit!
