One that we haven't mentioned before is the Giardino dell'Iris, or Iris Garden, a botanical garden that, unsurprisingly, specialises in the cultivation of iris flowers. Just find a vacation rental in Florence and come explore this lovely Tuscan garden for yourself, as a nice moment of quiet and calm amongst all the darting around busy tourist attractions.

The garden is owned by the Società Italiana dell'Iris and is devoted almost entirely to the flower. It houses more than 1,500 (15 of which are at risk of extinction) varieties of iris during the annual competition, the "International dell'Iris", which they began hosting in 1954. This is held between the end of April and the end of May each year and sees the garden open daily to the public, free of charge. So, if you are visiting at this time of year, it is a must-see attraction and should be pencilled in to any trip.
Just head to the corner of Viale dei Colli and Piazzale Michelangelo, where you can gain access from the East balcony of the Piazzale Michelangelo and you will find the blooming garden and some rather impressive views over the city.
