Roam Amongst Dinosaurs In Pisa

Dinosaur replica
We almost all had that phase where we were completely and utterly obsessed with dinosaurs, right? Some digested encyclopedias of knowledge as if they were a comic book, others smashed plastic figurines together in back yards and some visited every museum in sight while others watched Jurassic Park over and over again. For nineties kids, it was pretty much a rite of passage as a child but everyone can appreciate the might and majestic beauty, as well as the intrigue and mystery, of these long gone and long dead creatures.

Dinosaur skeletons are awe-inspiring and reconstructions fascinating and you'll find both in Pisa for the next few weeks. If you're looking for an activity to please everyone in the group – across all ages – find a villa with pool in the Pisa area and head to the "Terra dei Giganti", or “Land of Giants”, exhibition.
Leaning Tower of Pisa
The “Land of Giants” is a show-stopper that opened on the 10th of October 2015 and is running until the 31st of August 2016.

This new temporary exhibition is taking place at the Museum of Natural History, University of Pisa (Calci) and was inaugurated last year by Professor Walter Landini, former director, with an introductory lecture entitled “Dinosaurs of Patagonia”.

Made up of life-size reproductions of creatures such as the Carnotaurus (the South American fearsome predator “cousin” of the T-Rex), the huge crocodile Deinosuchus and the incredible Quetzalcoatlus that could hover in the air despite its immense size, there are plenty of dramatic installations to wow and captivate audiences.
Streets of Pisa
A visit to this very special exhibition is a real adventure and will allow you to be transported back more than two hundred million years, directly to the Triassic period. There you can come up close to these lost giants as well as get the opportunity to view a select mix of genuine fossils, full skeletons and educational information, all in the historic and lovely setting of the Natural History Museum of Calci, one of the oldest museums in the world.

The museum was opened by Ferdinando I dei Medici as a gallery at the end of the 1500s and it has since exhibited objects from the fields of history and science for an absolutely staggering 400 years.

For dinosaur lovers visiting Tuscany, it is a definite must-see!
