In our last post, we discussed the beautiful Medieval Tuscan town of Collodi and its connection to the creation and tales of beloved character Pinocchio. The biggest attraction in the town is a theme park dedicated to the famous puppet, Pinocchio Park, which is a real highlight of the region for children and adults alike and a great day out.
However, despite the town being relatively small and unheard of, it actually has a couple more attractions that will keep everyone in the group happy and provide a nice break from trips to museums and churches for kids exploring Tuscany and her culture and history. Once you have found a luxury villa in Collodi, these are a few of the things that you will want to check out in the town.

First stop is the Pinocchio Park, opened in 1956, where you'll find a museum housing a collection of Pinocchio books in several languages and Pinocchio-themed paintings and artworks and statues of the characters from the story dotted all around the park.
You'll also find some amusement park rides; a Fairy’s little house; a pirate ship and treasure cave; a giant fish-shaped fountain; a snack bar, picnic area and gift shop; a theatre near the entrance where puppet shows are performed in Italian daily 12 and 4 pm; and a crafts laboratory for children, where they can draw, paint and make their own Pinocchio hat and long nose.
You can buy special tickets for Pinocchio Park that also allow you entry into the park and two other attractions; the Villa Garzoni Gardens and the Butterfly House, located a few minutes walk away.

The villa, once home to the local nobles, the Garzoni family, has an incredible garden, which is a prime example of a landscaped Italian garden and features classical statues, grottoes, flower beds, pretty paths, fountains, geometric hedges and lawns. It is the perfect place to walk and take in the beauty of the plants and surroundings. The Butterfly House, meanwhile, is a large greenhouse where you'll find an exotic garden that is populated by thousands of colorful tropical butterflies. This astonishing attraction is open from March through October.
If you are looking for some traditional tourist attractions, the town also has the Antica Rocca, an ancient fortress; medieval-looking houses and streets; and the beautiful church of San Bartolomeo, with its fabulous views. Unexpectedly, this little town in Tuscany has lots to see and do!
