Just over 50 kilometres from Siena is the Renaissance town of Pienza. Situated in the heart of Val d’Orcia, this site was awarded as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. The main sights here are the beautiful cathedral and the Palazzo Piccolomini.

Less than half an hour’s drive from Siena is the hilltop town of Asciano, situated in the heart of the Crete Senesi.
This town offers some striking attractions such as the Etruscan museum, the church of San Lorenzo and the museum of Sacred Art.
Nearby to Asciano is the spectacular sight of the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey, a red brick building which contrasts beautifully with the curiously grey soils of the Crete Senesi.
