In the afternoon, a tour around the Accademia Gallery on Via Ricasoli would be a very worthwhile venture. It is one of the most visited buildings in Florence because of the famous sculpture it owns, Michelangelo’s ‘David’.

This breathtaking four metre high statue of a nude man was created by Michelangelo Buonarotti in 1504 and is renowned as one of the greatest sculptural pieces ever created. Other stunning statues of his are displayed here as well as beautiful paintings by Botticelli and Ghirlandaio.

A visit to the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio overlooking Piazza della Signoria would be the perfect ending to a day or two or artistic and cultural exploration.

View some of Michelangelo’s lesser known paintings including a cartoon of ‘Battle of Cascina’ or his sculpture of ‘Genio della Vittoria’.
