Tourists would love to take plenty of colourful photographs at the Corpus Christi festival in nearby Scarperia on the fourth Sunday of May where the streets are covered with elaborate flower pictures. Or get the cameras out for Renaissance day, held here on the first Sunday in September where everyone dresses up in 16th century attire and takes part in recreating what life would have been like during this exciting period. There are musicians playing on the streets, archery demonstrations and stalls filled with the dishes and crafts of the time to truly authenticate this interesting historical experience!
In late May, the Palio della Fortezza is held in the town of San Piero a Sieve. Four districts of the town compete in a series of trials relating to the legend of the snake ‘Regalo’ who was fabled to slither around St. Martins Fortress in the town. On Saturday July 6th this year, a fantastic music festival called ‘Ingorgo Sonaro’ is also hosted here which draws thousands of people from all over the country. The historical town centre is transformed into a massive disco area with DJ’s set up in different areas which is sure to be an epic experience for music loving visitors!
